Emergency First Aid

Emergency First Aid
is a one day course for anyone from Scouts and Guides more than ten years of age through to adults. It is the first day of the modular Apply First Aid course, and incorporates Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) before lunch and the management of many other first aid emergencies after lunch. There are three assessments: CPR, casualty management, and a ten question multiple choice theory paper. The class normally runs from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

For candidates not yet fourteen years of age, St John requires the completion of a consent form by a parent or guardian approving the teaching of CPR to a person under 14 years. One copy of this consent should be sent with the booking form.
(Note: Clicking on the 'consent form' link opens a PDF file, size 3kB, in a new window.)

Those over fourteen years of age are advised to consider the Apply First Aid class.

With success at the Emergency First Aid class, the candidate gains the National qualification HLTFA201A Provide Basic Emergency Life Support, valid for three years.

For a listing of the scope of the Emergency First Aid course, see the St John web site.

Prerequisites: None.

Preliminary First Aid

Preliminary First Aid
(First Aid for Juniors) is a one day course for Scouts and Guides more than ten years of age and up to about fourteen years of age. There is plenty of practising of skills and progressive assessment is employed, rather than an examination. The class normally runs from 8:30 am to about 4:00 pm.

The Preliminary First Aid course is designed to equip learners over the age of ten years with practical first aid skills that are realistic and appropriate, who because of age requirements or because of special needs, may not require the Apply First Aid Certificate.

Those over fourteen years of age are advised to attend the Apply First Aid class.

With success at the class, the candidate gains the Preliminary First Aid Certificate, valid for three years.

For a listing of the scope of the Preliminary First Aid (First Aid for Juniors) course, see the St John web site.

Prerequisites: None.
